Prosecutors revealed that Madeleine McCann suspects Christian Bruckner is under investigation on suspicion of at least five other sex crimes.

Hans Christian Walters, who last year named Bruckner as the prime suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance, said investigators believed there was “good basis” to suspect that the German pedophile also sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl.

The victim was caught by a naked man who performed a sexual act.

This was six miles from where three-year-old Maddie disappeared in Praia da Luz one month later in 2007, while on vacation with her parents Kate and Jerry.

Mr Walters said officers are also investigating Bruckner, 44, over the 1996 murders of 16-year-old Carola Titz in De Haan, Belgium, and the rape of a 20-year-old Irish woman in Praia de Rocha, Portugal, in 2004. .

He said his department was summoned by officers investigating Bruckner on suspicion of the disappearance of “German Maddy” – five-year-old Inga Gerike – in 2015, as well as allegations that he committed a sexual act in front of children at a playground in Messines, 40 miles from Praia da Luz, in 2017.

Mr. Walters speaks in a new book, My Search for Madeleine, by British journalist John Clark.

Referring to the arrest in Messens, which led to Bruckner’s extradition to Germany, he said, “We have now begun the investigation and he faces several years in prison.”

Asked about the case of the 10-year-old German girl on the Algarve beach in 2007, he said: “We are investigating Christian B’s possible involvement in this matter.”

Of the Irish woman, Mr. Walters said: “We only have Christian B as a suspect.”

And about Carola Tetze, he said: “The Belgian public prosecutor had some concrete questions about Carola not so long ago. They needed some information about Christian B and we gave it to them.”

He declined to comment on other cases linked to Bruckner, including that of the German boy Rene Haas, six, who disappeared from a beach in the Algarve in 1996.
