Andrew Neale resigns as Chairman and Main Presenter of GB News

Andrew Neal has resigned as president of GB News and will be stepping down as a presenter on the channel, it has been confirmed.

The veteran broadcaster, 72, has confirmed that he will no longer be the main presenter on the channel — just three months after he spearheaded its launch.

In a statement issued this evening, Mr Neal said: “I am sorry to go but have concluded that it is time to reduce my commitments on a number of fronts.

“Over the summer I had time to reflect on my wide range of interests and decided it was time to cut back.

“I hope GB News will continue to deliver on its founding promise and mission to reach audiences that are currently underserved by current news broadcasters.”

A statement from GB News said: “Andrew is without a doubt one of the best journalists and interviewees in this country.

“GB News thanks him for his leadership, wisdom and advice for 12 months, and we wish him well.”

An email sent to employees today, seen by Guido Fox, acknowledged that employees may be “very disappointed” with the news given Neil’s pivotal role in creating the channel.

It reads: “Andrew joined GB News 12 months ago and signed a multi-year contract, so we were hoping he’d stay longer.

“Andrew helped set our tone, our goal, right up to our launch date. He was an integral part of all of our major programming and hiring decisions.”

It came on the heels of reports that three of GB News’ top producers had resigned amid a growing debate over the channel’s direction.

Neil, a former editor of the Sunday Times and BBC political presenter, was an integral part of the channel’s launch in June. He had promised to “change the face of UK news and debate”.

After only two weeks in the role of the main presenter, Mr. Neal went on vacation and did not return. Former Sky News presenter Colin Brazier and former ITV News host Alistair Stewart have covered Mr Neal during his absence.
