Prince Andrew plans to challenge the jurisdiction of a US court in a civil suit brought by a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting and beating her two decades ago, according to one of the lawsuits on Monday.

Andrew’s lawyer, in the case file in US District Court in Manhattan, said the prince also plans to challenge the lawsuit by Virginia Joffrey, who said she was also abused by financier Jeffrey Epstein.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Monday to determine whether the papers have been properly handed out.

Ms Joffrey’s lawyers said the documents were handed over to the Metropolitan Police officer on duty at the main gates of Andrew’s home in Windsor Great Park on August 27.

Joffrey’s lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The 61-year-old king is one of the most prominent people linked to Epstein who was indicted by US prosecutors in July 2019 of sexually exploiting dozens of girls and women.

Epstein, a registered sex offender, killed himself at age 66 in a Manhattan prison on August 10, 2019.

Geoffrey Andrews was accused of forcing her in 2001, when she was 17, to have unwanted sex at the home of Jessalyn Maxwell, a British social activist and longtime colleague of Epstein.

Geoffrey also said that Andrew abused her at Epstein’s mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and on Epstein’s private owned island in the US Virgin Islands.

Andrew has denied Joffrey’s allegations of sexual assault.

In an interview with BBC Newsnight in 2019, Prince Andrew said he had never had sex with Ms Joffrey, saying: “I can tell you categorically that this never happened.”

The Duke said he “never remembers” meeting her and that there are “a number of things wrong” in her account.

He also suggested that a photo showing him with his arm around Ms. Giuffre may have been manipulated.
