Jurgen Klopp presents the Liverpool match against Milan
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned his players that they are in the toughest group in the Champions League during their time at Anfield.
The Reds have been drawn into what appears to be the toughest group in the competition which includes Spanish champions Atletico Madrid and Portuguese giants Porto and Milan – who have returned to the tournament for the first time since 2014.
Klopp prepares his team to face the Rossoneri at Anfield on Wednesday night with every decisive point in the group.
The German coach is starting his fifth Champions League campaign with the club, and while there will be plenty of charming relationships ahead, he is fully aware of how difficult it will be to progress.
Jurgen Klopp sent a warning to Liverpool stars before facing Milan
“This is the strongest group we’ve had since I was at Liverpool,” Klopp said before the match against the Milan giants.
“In 2013 when I was in Dortmund I had the Champions League group made up of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Ajax – all champions and us, a proper group.
“This collection shows that there are no games where people think, ‘Do we really want to watch this? “
“The group will be exciting from the first to the last second. I can’t see any kind of early decisions being made in this group and that keeps us well prepared.”
Yuri Tillmans is ‘open to everything’ amid Liverpool transfer interest and Manchester United Jurgen Klopp talks about Mohamed Salah’s future amid Liverpool contract talks.
Liverpool’s clash with Milan will be the first time the two teams meet, and this is not the final of the competition.
Arguably the greatest night in Merseyside club’s history came against the Italian side in 2005 when they knocked them out on penalties in the decisive decider after falling three goals down.
The Reds were not happy two years later when Milan beat them to the title thanks to striker Filippo Inzaghi’s double.
Klopp had mixed fortunes against other contenders in the group as well – Liverpool eliminated Porto in both 2018 and 2019, but were memorably defeated by Atlético Madrid in 2020, when Diego Simeone advanced dramatically in overtime.

Klopp added: “I don’t think when we saw the draw any of the four teams said, ‘Oh my God, what a fantastic group!'”
“Let’s go for it. It’s a tough group, we don’t have to lie.
“We’re part of the Champions League, there’s no match where people think about the score or anything else, it’s all about getting enough points to beat that group.
“We’d better not waste time, we should start with that tonight.”
