Fifteen climate change protesters have been arrested after parts of the M25 closed for the second time in three days, causing huge queues of traffic.
Protesters from Insulate Britain, including an 82-year-old, halted traffic on several sections of Britain’s busiest motorway on Wednesday morning.
The group is calling for government action on home confinement, tweeting: “#InsulateBritain is back. @BorisJohnson Are you hearing us yet?”

Protesters targeted Junction 23 of South Mimms in Hertfordshire, as well as the main road from Junction 8 at Reigate to Junction 9 in Leatherhead, both in Surrey.
Surrey Police said they arrested 15 people after attending the 8th and 10th junction of the M25 to supervise a demonstration which was reported around 8am.
“A number of protesters from Insulate Britain and Extinction Rebellion are on site and appropriate diversions are being carried out with the help of partner agencies. We have currently made 15 arrests,” the force said.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Local media have reported that Princess Road in Dartford, Kent, is partially closed with traffic awaiting due to a demonstration on the roundabout at Junction 1B of the motorway, causing congestion when approaching the busy Dartford crossing.
Twitter user Philip Marvell said the protesters were “in it again” adding: “Children stuck on school buses, ambulances can’t get through. This doesn’t help their cause.”
Videos circulating on social media show angry drivers arguing with activists.

Insulet Britain said 89 of its members took part in the action on Wednesday, adding in a statement: “We demand credible action now.
“The right jobs for hundreds of thousands of people to start the first real step – to isolate all the homes of this country – pound for pound gives us the biggest drop in carbon emissions.

“It’s a no-brainer, and yet this government is refusing to take the job. This is criminal negligence.”
The group wrote on Twitter that one of the activists on Wednesday, including an 82-year-old man, “suffers from a heart condition”.
On Monday, the group closed five junctions of the M25 motorway with another demonstration, trapping tens of thousands of drivers in huge queues of traffic and arresting about 78 people.
