Firefighters are treating a massive fire that has broken out at the National Grid site in Seeling, Ashford, which has evacuated nearby staff and residents.

Images from the scene show plumes of gray smoke rising from the IFA electrical connection site, with fire trucks lined up outside the property.

A statement issued by the National Network’s account on Twitter confirmed that emergency services were present.

“The site has been evacuated, and the safety of our staff, emergency teams and local residents is our top priority,” the statement read.

“We will provide another update in due course.”

Church Lane, on which the site is located, is closed in both directions between the A20 Hythe and the Roman Road in Aldington.
