‘Embarrassing’ – Everton fans confirm same view as Andre Gomes as he endorsed Pascal Strick’s ban

Everton fans were stunned by the news that Leeds United defender Pascal Strueck was up for a red card, as comparisons were made to the incident between Andre Gomes and Hong Min Son.

The 22-year-old was sent off for a foul on Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott during Yorkshire’s 3-0 defeat on Sunday. Elliott was sent off the field with a dislocated ankle but the player himself admitted he did not think it was a red card foul.

However, despite Leeds filing an appeal with the FA, his three-match ban was upheld.

The decision not to cancel the defender’s suspension has angered Everton fans, who have highlighted the disciplinary board’s willingness to revoke Heung-Min Son’s red card over his dealings with Andre Gomes in November 2019.

The Tottenham striker’s challenge caused Gomez to fracture an ankle, which led to the Portuguese midfielder being ruled out for 112 days.

With Son evidently dismayed while the Everton man received treatment, the FA took the option to overturn referee Martin Atkinson’s red card, much to the frustration of Blues fans.

Both his interventions and Struijk were carried out from behind, with the South Korean upset by an earlier incident, which likely affected his lack of composure in the challenge he faces – although it is the inconsistency of the applied rules that has angered Everton fans.

Having fully recovered, the former Barcelona midfielder made 11 more appearances during the 2019/20 season, before making 28 appearances last season.

However, to start under new coach Rafa Benitez, Gomez still had a game-changing influence when he came off the bench against Burnley on Monday night.

The Spanish coach’s tactical adjustments to bolster Everton’s midfield proved to be the catalyst for his side’s impressive 3-1 victory.
