The Prime Minister continues the cabinet reshuffle as Nadine Doris addresses members of Parliament as Minister of Culture – British politics live | Policy

[ad_1]

good morning. Yesterday, Boris Johnson carried out a reshuffle that turned out to be bolder, farther-reaching, more interesting and perhaps more strategic than most people expected. It has also been remarkably smooth by the parameters of the cabinet reshuffle. Only Dominic Raab seemed to have shown great resistance to what was being proposed, and as far as we know at this point Johnson was able to make all cabinet appointments according to plan.

Here’s our overnight story.

And there’s more to come, because today Johnson is adjusting more junior ministers. Downing Street just sent out the first ad.

Penny Mordaunt, who was defense minister when Theresa May was prime minister, and until yesterday was director of public payroll in the Cabinet Office, has become a state secretary at the Department for International Trade. Michael Ellis replaces her as a general payroll official. Until recently, he was the attorney general, covering Suella Braverman while she was on maternity leave.

Mordaunt used Twitter earlier this morning to announce that she was leaving.

I’m trying to monitor the BTL comments but it’s impossible to read them all. If you have a direct question, include “Andrew” somewhere and I’ll likely find it. I try to answer the questions, and if they are of general interest, I will post the question and answer it above the line (ATL), although I can’t promise that for everyone.

If you want to get my attention quickly, it is better to use Twitter. I’m on AndrewSparrow.
