Rupert Murdoch’s News UK is set to launch a new TV channel for current affairs in Britain, with Piers Morgan signed into a new global deal.
The group said in a statement that the station, called talkTV, will offer a mix of “hourly newscasts, sports and entertainment shows, as well as current affairs, debates, opinion and documentaries.”
The channel will launch in early 2022, with Piers Morgan’s new weekday show being the main draw.
It will be available live and on demand on your TV or other personal device.
Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has also signed a wide-ranging deal to join News Corp and FOX News Media, it was announced Thursday.
Besides helping launch the new channel, Piers Morgan will publish two online columns weekly for the New York Post and The Sun.
Piers Morgan said he was “delighted to be back at News Corp, where I began my media career over 30 years ago.”
“Rupert Murdoch has always been a fearless champion of free speech and together we will build something new and very exciting,” he added.
The TV presenter left ITV earlier this year due to a row over comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex. Morgan said he didn’t believe a word of what Meghan had said about her mental health in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Speaking about his new move, Mr. Morgan said: “I want my Global Show to be a fearless forum for energetic discussions and agenda setting interviews, a place that celebrates everyone’s right to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously scrutinized and challenged.”
Conclusion: “I’m going home and we’re going to have some fun.”
Mr. Morgan will be produced by former colleague Winnie Dunbar Nelson, with whom he worked for ten years at CNN and then Good Morning Britain.

News UK already owns a number of UK media outlets, including The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, talkRADIO, talkSPORT, Virgin Radio and Times Radio.
Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp. said: “Pierce is the broadcaster every channel wants but dreads hiring. Pierce is a wonderful broadcaster, a talented journalist and he says what people think and feel.”
“He has many ardent fans around the world and we look forward to increasing his audience in the UK, on FOX Nation, Sky News Australia, The Sun and New York Post.”
Publisher HarperCollins, owned by News Corp., will also publish a follow-up to Piers Morgan’s book Wake Up.
Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News UK, referred to the appointment as “the smartest draw for the new talkTV service” and added that “Sun readers love Piers and I’m glad he’s back. Welcome home!”
Speaking about the new TV channel, Ms. Brooks continued: “We are committed to providing choice for TV and streaming viewers and delivering the best of our on-screen journalism. Utilizing modern technology, we can produce high quality displays at a low cost. ”
Scott Taunton, chief executive of News UK Broadcasting, promised that “talkTV will provide a rich mix of entertainment and education that no other service provides.”
The announcement comes after it was reported earlier this year that Rebekah Brooks had chilled about the costs of getting a new TV channel on the air.
It told employees in April that “while there is a demand from consumers to provide alternative news, the costs of operating a circulating news channel are significant, and we assess that the return to our shareholders will not be sufficient.”
However, it now appears that News UK has changed its stance with the arrival of talkTV.
Rival television channel GB News got into trouble this week after veteran broadcaster Andrew Neal resigned as president and presenter.
The departure followed reports that Neil had clashed with station chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos.
His departure raised questions about the future of the station and its other presenters.
