A shipwrecked mother of two drank her own urine so she could breastfeed her children to keep them alive for four days after their boat was wrecked by a monster wave.

Marilye Chacon, 40, gave her life to save her six-year-old son and two-year-old daughter after they were injured at sea.

The sailing trip turned disastrous after a huge wave wrecked the ship’s hull and left a piece of wreckage and a refrigerator floating in the sea with the mother, her nanny and her two children on board.

Rescue teams are still searching for five more people missing at sea after a boat trip from Venezuela to the Caribbean ended in disaster for a group of family and friends.

A weakened Marielle struggled to stave off dehydration, so the kids had a fighting chance to survive the horrific ordeal.

But rescuers found the two children alive, but severely burned and dehydrated, still clinging to their dead mother.

They also found 25-year-old nanny Veronica Martinez, who was said to have taken refuge in a refrigerator on the boat to survive four days at sea in the sweltering temperatures.

Authorities said the mother was believed to have died of dehydration just hours before rescuers found survivors.

The group of nine had left Higuerot in their home country of Venezuela for the uninhabited Caribbean island of La Tortuga off the country’s northern coast on September 3 but was never successful.

Their disappearance sparked a rescue operation that led to the discovery of three survivors on an improvised lifeboat and transported to the hospital.

Five people, including Reims David Campbell – Marilee’s husband and father of the children – are still missing.

The children and the nanny were taken to the hospital so they could be treated for dehydration and first-degree burns.

Officials confirmed that Marily, who died of organ failure due to dehydration, kept her children alive by drinking her own urine so she could breastfeed them.

Her funeral was held on Saturday after officials confirmed that her two children, named Jose David and Maria Beatriz Camplor Chacon, would continue although they are believed to be suffering from post-traumatic stress in addition to physical injuries.

The funeral was streamed on YouTube so that loved ones and well-wishers can follow it online due to Covid restrictions.

The Venezuelan National Maritime Authority INEA said in a statement: “On September 3 at 9:30 am, a pleasure boat named Thor Higuerote left for La Tortuga Island and is scheduled to return on September 5.

“Port authorities were informed on September 5 at around 11pm that they had either failed to reach their destination or had returned to the location from which they had departed and had begun a search.”

She added: “On September 6 at 6:20 pm, we were alerted to the presence of a small white ship drifting off the island of La Orcella which redirected the search.

On September 7 at 2.10pm, four people, two of whom were children, were rescued by the Coast Guard vessel AB Carecare.

“We share the pain of the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy.”

An official at the National Institute of Statistics acting as a spokesperson for the organization was quoted as saying: “The mother who died kept her children alive by feeding them and drinking her urine.

“She died three or four hours before being saved from dehydration after she had stopped drinking water for three days.”

He admitted that their chances of survival would have increased significantly if the group had had a radio, GPS or other security devices including flares.

Four of the five other people missing on the boat have been named after José Javier Marcano Narváez; Alejandro Osorio Graterol; Viani Carolina dos Santos Morales and Remes David Camplor, were serving as the captain of the boat.
