Gabi Pettito: Family lawyer casts doubt on ‘incident’ with father at Laundry’s house before report lost

New details highlight what is known about the disappearance of Florida YouTuber Gabe Pettito, who did not return from a cross-country bus trip in August with her fiancé Brian Laundry, who was described by police as a person interested in the case.

The day before her family was reported missing, Petitto’s father Joseph was involved in a “public service” incident at Laundry’s home, where he and Gabe lived with Laundery’s parents, according to heavily redacted police documents reported by Fox News.

The records, largely withheld due to an ongoing investigation, do not indicate the reason for the September 10 call, but note that police returned twice the next day and confiscated the couple’s Ford Transit, which they used to cross country.

Update: Rick Stafford, the Pettito family’s attorney, said the records should not be read to indicate some kind of exchange between Laundry and Joseph Pettito that day. From what I understand, on September 10, Joe Pettito called the North Port, [Florida] “To report his daughter’s disappearance,” Mr Stafford told The Independent. “All day he was at Vero Beach, which was on the other side of the state. He never went to Brian Laundry’s house, he wasn’t in the building,” Stafford added. who was taken by phone from Joe to the North Port Police Department.”

Previously, Pettito told Fox News, which reported the public service incident, that he didn’t know Laundry had returned to Florida until 9/11.

“Brian came home on September 1st, and we didn’t even realize he was home alone or even that he was home until 9/11 when we reported her missing,” Pettito told the network on Friday. “It was no different than going for a few long stretches without checking in but I still can’t believe he’s home and won’t tell us where our daughter is!”

The Independent has reached out to the Pettito family’s lawyer.

Ms Pettito last spoke to her family at the end of August, two weeks after police in Utah arrested the couple over concerns about a possible domestic violence incident. Police records stated that they were separated overnight but that no charges were brought against them.

Gabe’s family expressed doubt that her last text message – “No service in Yosemite” – was sent from their daughter, given that the couple were likely hundreds of miles from Northern California when it was sent.

Mr. Laundry returned home from the trip without Mrs. Pettito, and has since appointed a lawyer and refused to assist investigators in the search for the missing young woman. The police did not identify evidence of a crime.

Law enforcement agencies across multiple jurisdictions in Florida, Utah and beyond are involved in the investigation, and the FBI assists with forensics.

Investigators have seized the husband’s converted truck used for the trip, and are searching digital records for more information.
