Gabi Pettito’s disappearance: The FBI searches in Florida for the home of her missing fiancé Brian Laundry | US news

The FBI searched the home of Brian Laundry – the fiancée of Gabe Pettito, whose body was apparently found over the weekend in Wyoming National Park.

A videotape showed dozens of law enforcement officers, including one wearing an FBI jacket, pulling into a home in North Port, Florida, on Monday.

According to local media reports, Laundry’s parents were seen in a police car while their home was searched. The FBI office in Tampa said in a tweet that it was carrying out a search warrant.

Pettito, 22, disappeared after she and Mr. Laundry, 23, left for a cross-country trip in a converted truck to visit national parks in July.

They got into a fight along the way, and Mr. Laundry was alone when he drove back in the truck to his parents’ home in Northport on September 1 – making him a “person of interest”, police said.

Before making the trip, Mr. Laundry and Mrs. Pettito had been living with his parents.

It comes after police began searching for Mr. Laundry over the weekend. His family reported him missing, with relatives telling officers they had not seen him for three days.

On Sunday, the FBI announced the discovery of a body on the edge of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, which the couple had visited.

“Full forensic identification has not been completed to confirm 100% that we have found Gabe, but her family has been notified,” FBI agent Charles Jones said.

“This is a very difficult time for him [Petito’s] family and friends.”

Joseph, Pettito’s father, posted on social media a picture of a broken heart over his daughter’s photo, with the message: “You touched the world.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday and a lawyer serving as the family’s spokesperson asked in a statement to give them space to grieve.

Jones said investigators are still seeking information from anyone who may have seen Pettito or Laundry.

Northport police said a search operation over the weekend at the Florida National Park failed to find Laundry.

In a statement, they said they had “exhausted all avenues to search for land” on the 24,000-acre Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County.

Investigators focused on the area where Laundry’s parents had told police he might have visited.

The Pettito family on Long Island, New York, was begging the Laundrys to tell them where their son had last seen her.

She and Mr. Laundry were childhood sweethearts who met while growing up on Long Island.

A video released by police in Moab, Utah, showed an officer stopped the couple’s truck on August 12 after it was seen speeding and crashing into a curb near the entrance to Arks National Park. A body camera video showed Ms Pettito’s annoyance.

Mr. Laundry said in the video that the couple got into a fight after he got into the truck with dirty feet.

He said he did not want to pursue the domestic violence charge against Ms Pettito, which officers determined was the abuser.

Moab police separated the couple overnight, as Mr. Laundry checked into a hotel and Mrs. Pettito stayed with the truck.
