We are not yet at the point where the American public is tired of the Ryder Cup and its unsatisfactory results. Europe has won four out of five rounds at the event, which is a blow to the nation’s eagerly anticipated sporting confidence.
At lunchtime Thursday in this rural corner of Wisconsin, Bryson DeChambeau performed rounds from a tee, Jim Furyk danced inappropriately to a 51-year-old, and Dustin Johnson blasted T-shirts in the stands from a commonly seen bomber type. in Star Wars. The screaming, screaming, and screaming of a crowd prepared for an epic battle. Five years have passed since the Ryder Cup on this side of the Atlantic. Apparently, absence made hearts sparkle. With the wind gusting and Lake Michigan roaring, this really became an amazing sight. Now for the serious stuff as Europe seeks to hold the Gold Cup over the rugged terrain of Sfeir Strait.
What is the price of a quick start? Of all the stats – hundreds – associated with this competition, there is one jump. Europe has not won the opening session of the Ryder Cup since 2006. At Hazeltine in 2016, the United States won all four of Friday’s games and had no reason to look in the rear-view mirror. Given the scale of support for hosts this time around, a scenario linked of course to travel restrictions, Europe certainly cannot concede early momentum. Padrig Harrington, who has so far made no mistake during his European team captain’s duties, will realize a lot. The Friday Quad session is very important.
Not surprisingly, the United States was given extreme favoritism. Nota Begai, during a TV analysis, went so far as to assert that the European team is “significantly superior”. So the relaxed state of play within the European group all week makes perfect sense: Harrington and his players have absolutely nothing to lose. Seven of Harrington played in Paris three years ago when the United States was disbanded. In John Ram, Europe has the best player in the world.
“This is a team effort,” Ram said. “It’s not like I can do it myself. He-hey [victory] It will be a great end to this year. It would be a very nice ending to what has been a great year. This win in France will create an unforgettable league and it will feel really good to be able to do that on my first attempt on US soil as well.”

Ram retracted the feeling that he is already being seen as a mascot within the European team room. “We have a lot of guys on the team who are loud enough, and they’ve done it enough that the others naturally gravitate towards direction,” the Spaniard said. “I’m not going to actively go and make myself, ‘Hey, I’m a leader now,’ because I don’t have that massive ego.
“I hope as I have done so far this year, I will let the clubs and the ball do the talking. I will leave the speeches and leadership to the men who have been doing it for so long.”

Harrington has gained confidence in himself since confirming his squad. He has consistently described his scores of players as the best in terms of volleys that Europe has offered.
“If this is computer-driven, the United States wins,” Harrington said. “But everything about the stats of this course suggests that you want to be a good striker for the ball. When you miss the greens, you either get an easy slice or a very difficult; lying position. A good slicer is worthless here. Players who play well tend to get into Lots of green lanes. There are more long irons than any track we’ll play on. My squad is full of ball strikers and it’s balanced. We don’t hide anyone, there’s no one you think can’t play four- or four-way.”
Indeed, the adaptability of the vast majority of the European team can be seen. There are no potential pairs that would draw skeptical looks. Tyrrell Hatton, who regularly makes the impression that he will be throwing punches at his own shadow, needs a bit of care and attention, but others can be trusted with a variety of partners.
The American landscape is more complex. Brooks Koepka and DeChambeau may insist that their overt mutual apathy isn’t an issue for this week alone, but Steve Stricker’s failure to pull his problem kids together even in a practice session was all but certain. The prickly Koepka insisted Thursday that comments suggesting he had little time for the Ryder Cup “were spun.” Stricker has six first-time players on his team, and though Open Champion Colin Morikawa, the 24-year-old among them, has been the type to get injured since lifting the Claret Jug. Europe would have reason to fear Billy Horschel and Patrick Reed but neither was chosen.
In his home state, leading a team that is placed inside the top 21 world rankings, Stryker is the leader with room for embarrassment. “We have a mission ahead of us and we have the opportunity to do something really special for our team, our country and especially the Strix,” said Tony Finau. “We want to win this not just for everything to do with it but especially for our captain.”
Young people on the host side – The average lifespan of five years younger than Europeans can be significant in a place that requires physical effort. The lack of harsh penalties around Whistling Straits is typical of the Ryder Cup in the US, but it means that comparisons to the 2015 US PGA Championship, which was also played here, are not necessarily correct. Jordan Spieth came second in the event, with Koepka tied for fifth, Johnson tied for seventh and Finau tied for tenth.
The only numbers that count this time are 14, which is the number of points Europe needs to keep, and 14 and a half that the United States requires to get them back. In America’s dairy land, the only guarantee is that participants will milk the atmosphere.
