The massive 6-foot-tall obstacle was discovered coughing up blood on B5062 near Rhoden, Shropshire after being hit by a car. Another snake was also found nearby, sparking fears the road could be used as a waste dump for exotic pets.

Residents in the area were left horrified by the discovery, with many expressing concern about letting their children go outdoors.

One local wrote on social media: “Is it just me or does this scare anyone else?

“I don’t want 6-foot snakes to live roaming around the village.”

Another added: “This is literally my nightmare stuff.

“My skin crawls just thinking about it.”

A third person said: “I am worried about my children and my dog. These animals can attack.”

Boas are believed to “eat almost anything” they find in the wild including birds and wild boars.

The animal charity, RSPCA, said they were contacted after two drivers spotted the snake with a broken jaw on Friday 17 September.

Claire Davy, an RSPCA inspector, attended the scene, where the snake was taken to a vet but unfortunately died.

Ms Davey said: ‘Usually when we get a call like this we find that the python has been misidentified and is in fact a small local species, so we were very surprised when we arrived and saw a six-foot obstacle in the way.

“It is sad that the life of this beautiful creature ended like this.

“Unfortunately, we believe this snake may have been abandoned because it is a very secluded site and there have been no homes around for at least a mile.

The inspector added that snake bites can be up to 13 feet long and up to 20 years old, “which is why we always urge people to do their research before taking any exotic animal as a pet.”

The sighting follows the discovery of 10-foot snakes last month in a tree in Cambridgeshire.

It was reported that firefighters cut tree branches to reach the snake and moved the snake away.

The other snake was noticed a few days later crossing a country lane.
