US Open champion Emma Raducano has received a main calling card at next week’s BNP Paribas Open, the prestigious WTA 1000 event, which returns after a two-year hiatus. 18-year-old Radocano climbed the rankings, from No. 150 to No. 22, after her historic victory in New York, where she became the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a major. Raducanu has not lost a set in 10 matches.

Raducanu made her WTA Tour debut in June at the WTA 250 event in Nottingham before reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon in her second Tour event. Moving on to the hard courts, Raducanu reached the final of the WTA 125 Championships in Chicago, then knocked out 20 straight sets in New York.
Given its rise, Indian Wells will be the fifth event on the career tour level at Raducanu.
Champions Corner: After her win in New York, what’s next for Raducano?
This year’s edition of Indian Wells will not include the Wimbledon and Australian Open champions. World number one Ashleigh Barty confirmed her withdrawal from the tournament due to a schedule change, and Naomi Osaka withdrew.
“The BNP Paribas Open is one of my favorite events on the calendar,” Barty said in a statement. “It was a tough decision to quit but I know a few weeks off and seeing family in Australia is the right thing for me at this point in the season.
“I wish the tournament and the WTA all the best for a successful event and I hope to return to Palm Springs in 2022.”
The main draw match at the BNP Paribas Open begins on Wednesday, October 6th.
