Jurgen Klopp reveals Curtis Jones’ fears before the match before the Porto match

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Curtis Jones was initially in doubt before he starred in Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Porto.

The midfielder was brilliant in the engine room all night as the Reds put the Dragon to the sword with a superb Champions League performance in Group B.

Jones was at the center of it all, causing goalkeeper Diego Costa to blast his shot past Mohamed Salah in the opening game before extending the No. 11 with another pass in the second half.

It was Jones’ pass that fired substitute Roberto Firmino into fourth before the Liverpool-born midfielder’s shot veered off the Brazilian’s path as he netted his second and fifth goal for the Reds late in the day.

Klopp revealed that 20-year-old Jones was a possible absentee before the match after receiving a letter from the club’s doctor Jim Moxon.

“Curtes played a good game,” Klopp said. “He had some problems with his stomach before the match.

“The doctor came to my room and told me to watch him, but after the match I told him anything [the problem] It was, keep it!

“He was really good, he was everywhere, he was involved in everything. He made the first goal with an abrupt end. The goalkeeper couldn’t stop it.

“He played, defensively, a top-class match. There were a lot of things that I liked a lot tonight, he pressed from the blind side really well.

“So, yeah, just keep going, Curtis!”

Klopp, whose side meet Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, added: “Porto had some huge problems today.

“One of the opponents’ defense was shown a red card in the last game at Channel Mbemba.

“Pepe couldn’t play after he got injured in the warm-up and they didn’t have a central defender partnership that played together a lot.

“It doesn’t help at all.

“Performance-wise, it was really good. It’s clear that Porto followed our last game against Brentford because they started straight.

“We sorted it out on the pitch step by step.”
