Enstroga, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy all collapse as the UK crisis deepens

[ad_1]

Energy suppliers Enstroga, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy have announced a halt to trading, Ofgem said.

Enstroga has 6,000 customers, Igloo Energy has 179,000, and Symbio Energy has about 48,000, temporarily leaving about 233,000 customers without a supplier.

Ofgem assured that customers will continue to receive gas and electricity as usual.

The energy industry regulator said it would select suppliers to take over customer accounts, and that newly appointed firms would reach out to account holders.

Ofgem promised that any credit in clients’ accounts would be safe.

Domestic customers will also be protected by a cap on energy prices when switching to a new supplier.

Customers of the three companies are advised to wait until a new supplier is assigned and contact them before considering a switch.

The three companies are the latest to stop trading in recent weeks amid an unprecedented rise in global gas prices.

Its collapse followed failures by People Energy, Green Supply Ltd, Utility Point, PfP Energy, MoneyPlus Energy and Avro Energy.

This means that nine small energy suppliers have gone bankrupt since the beginning of this month.

Ofgem’s Director of Retail, Neil Lawrence, said: “Ofgem’s number one priority is customer protection.

“We know this is a worrying time for many people and the news of a supplier going out of business can be worrying.

Our safety net will ensure your energy supply continues.

“If you have an Enstroga, Igloo Energy or Symbio Energy account balance, the money you paid is protected and you won’t lose money owed to you.”
