Daniel Craig’s latest outing as 007 broke UK box office records, grossed more opening weekend than any other film in the history of the James Bond franchise, and became the biggest movie of the year after just four days in cinemas.

No Time to Die, which had its UK premiere at midnight on Wednesday, broke international records at the pandemic box office, grossing $119m (£88m) in the 54 markets where the film has been released so far.

That makes it the first title from a Hollywood studio to break $100 million without opening in China, the world’s second-largest film market, since the pandemic began more than 18 months ago.

In the UK and Ireland, Bondmania fueled nearly £26m in ticket sales over its first four days as fans waited for the three-times-delayed film – No Time to Die was originally scheduled for release in April last year – into a role in the UK and Ireland. Cinema in record numbers. The film’s three-day opening weekend, from Friday to Sunday night, reached £21 million, according to the British Film Association.

That makes it more successful than Skyfall and Specter, the two biggest films in the 59-year history of the franchise, which each grossed £20 million at the UK box office in their three-day opening weekends. No Time To Die is already the biggest movie of the year, breaking Peter Rabbit 2’s £20.2 million at the UK and Ireland box office.

No Time to Die, which also holds the record for the longest Bond movie, clocking in at 2 hours and 45 minutes, has the widest theatrical release of any movie in UK history, releasing in 772 cinemas with more than 9,000 showings daily.

Universal Pictures, which is releasing the film along with MGM, said No Time to Die so far is in line with Skyfall, the most successful Bond film of all time which grossed $1.1 billion globally. However, it tracks 17% less than Specter, which made $880 million globally.

The next box office test for No Time to Die will be its October 8 release in the US, the film, the world’s largest, followed by China on October 29.

The pandemic could hamper the film’s ability to eventually match Skyfall’s record, with analysts estimating that one in five cinemas globally remains closed.
