A metropolitan police officer accused of raping a woman he met on dating app Tinder has been jailed.

PC David Carrick, 46, who serves in command of parliamentary and diplomatic protections, was arrested over the weekend after he was accused of attacking the woman after they met for drinks in St Albans last year, according to a court hearing.

Carrick, who “categorically denies” the allegation, has been suspended and is due to appear in St Albans Crown Court on November 1.

He appeared in St Albans Magistrates’ Court via a video link from a police station in Stevenage and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

Attorney General Mark Fleckney said there were allegations that Carrick met the woman on 4 September last year and they went for drinks in St Albans. Carrick allegedly told the woman that he was a police officer in the Met, and was guarding a number of important people including the Prime Minister.

The court heard that he allegedly raped the woman at the Premier Inn in St Albans where he was staying.

Defending him, Ryan Dowding said the officer categorically denied the allegations.

Chief Justice Paul Goldspring, who appeared via a video link from Westminster Magistrates’ Court, returned Carrick to remand.
