A woman has been “raped by a man in a tracksuit” in a park behind a crowded shopping mall while police are now chasing the suspect.

The victim was taken to hospital after being attacked at around 10 pm yesterday.

The police collar is still in place

Officers were blocking people from accessing a section of the park behind Princess Alice Retail Park in Sutton Coldfield, where the garland is still in place.

She is being treated for her injuries and specialized charities are standing by to help her.

The man is believed to have been wearing a gray tracksuit and forensic evidence is urgently being analyzed, as well as reviewing CCTV footage.

Detective Inspector Andy McHugh is leading the investigation. He said: “We’ll be working around the clock to find this guy but you can help by checking the CCTV footage, the dash cam and the doorbell.

“Look for anything that doesn’t look right. Let us know right away if you see anything.

“Our thoughts are with the understandably deeply traumatized woman.”

They say they will increase the number of officers patrolling the area over the next few days.
