The UK High Court has concluded that the ruler of Dubai authorized the hacking of the phones of his ex-wife, Princess Haya, and her lawyer during a legal battle over their two children.
The court ruled that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 72, was given his “express or implied powers” to hack his sixth wife’s phone with a multimillion-pound spyware, Pegasus, during the ongoing legal case.
The vice president and prime minister of the UAE also allowed Pegasus to be used on her lawyer, personal assistant and two members of her security team, it was also found.

The use of the spyware, which is manufactured by the NSO Group and sold exclusively to nation states, came to light in August 2020 when the wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Cherie Blair, told Princess Haya’s lawyer, Baroness Shackleton, that the court had heard that it might have been hacked.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court published a number of rulings in the ongoing case between Sheikh Mohammed and Princess Haya, the half-sister of King Abdullah II of Jordan, regarding their two children, Al Jalila, 13, and Zayed, nine years old.
Sheikh Mohammed denied all allegations of piracy.
He said in a statement: “I have always denied the allegations made against me and continue to do so. These matters relate to supposed state security operations.”
“As a Head of Government concerned with private family proceedings, it has not been appropriate for me to provide evidence on such sensitive matters either in person or through my advisor in a foreign court. Neither the Emirate of Dubai nor the United Arab Emirates are parties to these proceedings and did not participate in the hearing.
So the results are inevitably based on an incomplete picture.
In addition, the findings were based on evidence that was not disclosed to me or my advisor, and I therefore insist that it was presented in an unfair manner.
