Six injured in another earthquake in Balochistan

An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit the Harnai and Sibi districts of Balochistan on Sunday.

Six people were injured in the latest earthquake in Harnai, where a 5.9-magnitude quake on Thursday killed at least 22 people.

The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of Sunday’s quake was just five kilometers south of Harnay at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

Tremors were felt in and around Sibi at 8:03 pm. The earthquake spread fear and panic among the people. Citizens came out of their homes reciting a good word.

Harnai Deputy Commissioner Sohail Anwar Hashmi said that six people were injured in the earthquake in Harnai and were taken to DHQ Hospital for medical treatment.

The spokesman for the Balochistan government, Liaquat Shahwani, put the number of the injured at seven and said that they were returned to their homes after receiving treatment at the hospital.

There were no reports of injuries or damage in areas other than Harnay.

Balochistan experienced several aftershocks and at least two small earthquakes after Thursday.

A 3.2-magnitude earthquake was felt on Friday in and around Sibi.

Relief efforts continue

Meanwhile, the local administration and security forces in Harnai are continuing to provide aid to families affected by Thursday’s earthquake, officials said.

On Sunday, the deputy commissioner of Harnai said the Pakistan Army, FC, and district administration were delivering relief items to victims’ homes.

He said that after conducting a joint survey and delivering relief materials to about 600 families.

He urged people to stay at home rather than go to the deputy commissioner’s office or the Qila Club to get relief.
