Deontay Wilder will not be allowed to return to the ring until next April after his brutal defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury.

Wilder was stopped in the penultimate round of the triple fight after hitting the plate on three occasions as he lost to the Briton for the second time in a row.

He was taken to the hospital for an examination before coming out later Saturday night with a broken finger and the Nevada State Athletic Commission won’t let him fight until April 8 unless his finger is cleared by a doctor.

Fury was granted a record 45-day ‘suspension’ after his efforts to retain his world heavyweight title.

Fury’s victory brought a concussive end to a rivalry that had raged for nearly three years, but the Briton had to pull off victory the hard way by climbing twice off the canvas in a lively fourth round.

He had brought down Wilder in the previous session before doing the same in rounds 10 and 11.

Fury returned to the UK on Tuesday to spend time with his extended family, which includes his six children.

He is likely to face British rival Dillian White early next year, assuming a Londoner win over Otto Wallen later this month.

If he succeeds, he will surely target the winner of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk which is set to take place in March.

Wilder faces an even more uncertain future after suffering his second professional defeat as he prepares to have surgery on his hand.

His coach Malik Scott wants his job to take some time – but has insisted the former champ won’t retire.

“I really don’t want Deontay talking about boxing or doing that. It has nothing to do with boxing for a while, I want him to get some rest after that.

“Even after the last fight, he was very tired, he never rested. He deserves a good rest and we will make sure he gets it. I’m going to Tuscaloosa in a few days to spend some time with him.”

“Deontay has financially secured his family so that he doesn’t have to fight for a living.

“But retirement isn’t in his plans at all and it’s not something we discussed. He’ll be back in whatever form he wants; he’s a great fighter and he doesn’t belong in there with the other guys, he has to be in high level fights and major events.

“Deontay Wilder was great on Saturday, but Tyson Fury was even bigger – it was a great night of boxing for the heavyweight team.

“You have to credit Fury for having a good chin and getting up. Fury is a legend and one of the best teams in the heavyweight class of any era, the same for Deontay.”

One of Wilder’s potential fights is a mouth-watering showdown with Anthony Joshua.

The Briton faces a revenge mission in his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk next year, but if he loses he will need a dance partner.
