Mum Mary Berry revealed she had to wait three and a half hours for an ambulance after breaking her hip and tripping in the park.

Mrs. Mary told the Daily Mail’s Weekend that she fell on some bricks while picking sweet peas in her garden and “got down hard.”

She said she called her husband Paul who did not answer while watching a cricket match before her brother-in-law Dan came to her rescue.

“He saw me and said, ‘I’m going to get an ambulance,'” said Mrs. Mary. Oh, no, I said, I’m fine, but he refused me. He called the ambulance and they said, “We’re very busy.”

“It was a Sunday afternoon and there were a lot of football injuries and whatever.

“We waited three and a half hours, until six in the evening, and that’s right too! I was totally happy.”

“Maybe there was a road accident. I totally understood they were busy and Dan cared about me. He made me talk.”

Mrs. Mary said her husband was shocked to see her finally leave in an ambulance.

She added: “They took me to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and were really good at explaining. One of my feet was turning around and they said I broke my thigh.”

Mrs. Mary, who contracted polio as a child, underwent surgery the next morning and revealed that the doctors had fixed her old hip instead of giving her a new one.

And she added, “Oh, they were all great!”
