30-year-old mum dies four months after giving birth to a ‘miracle baby’

Widnes’s mother who died of cancer will be memorialized tomorrow when a regional landmark lights up in her honor and on her first birthday the “Miracle Child”.

Danielle Kelly, 30, and her partner Liam, 25, learned in March 2020 that she was pregnant despite Danielle undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2019.

Doctors told the couple that the treatment made it unlikely they would have any more children.

Danielle’s condition deteriorated in October, and she was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer, making the exciting move to deliver the baby early.

Four days later, Everlane gave birth six weeks early but was otherwise healthy in the C-section on October 16.

Liam declared her a “gift” and “miracle child” against the backdrop of her mother’s serious illness and the effects of chemotherapy.

In the following months, Danielle developed sepsis and pneumonia and was hospitalized over Christmas, and it was discovered that the condition had spread.

She died on February 27, and Liam and Everlane and their two sons, Alfie and George, survived a previous relationship.

Tomorrow the Mersey Gateway Bridge will light up in pink and purple in her memory.

Her mum, Anne Marie Jackson, 47, said pink is for breast cancer and purple “she loved it.”

The date is Everlin’s first birthday and falls just a few days before Danielle’s 31st birthday on October 19.

Halton Borough Council approved the change of color at the request of Liam’s cousin Phil Mahon.

Lighting the waterway in memory of her daughter and cause cancer awareness will have an extra sweet thorn of emotion for Anne Marie and her family because Danielle’s father Neil Jackson, 53, is now battling cancer himself.

With Covid anxiety still lingering, tomorrow some family members will celebrate by heading to Spike Island in Widnes and Wigg Island in Runcorn to remember Daniel. To fulfill one of her dying hopes, her story will help save others.

Anne-Marie said: “This is what she wanted us to do to raise awareness.

“If we can screen someone before what happened to Danielle, that’s all you want to save one or two people.”

She added, “I think some are going to Spike Island and some of his family are going to Wig Island.

“It’s Everlin’s birthday tomorrow and Danielle’s 19th birthday.

“They asked—he was his cousin—asked shortly after Daniel died, he sent me a letter and a card.

“We all forgot about it, and then I texted him and said they would do it on the 16th.

“My husband has cancer too, he’s a fighter.

“After everything that’s happened in the past two years, we’ve had nothing but hell.”

Anne-Marie said the family hopes things will improve in the new year.

Tomorrow’s bridge lighting also falls less than a week before the breast cancer day it is now wearing.
