Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo are reported to have inspired Manchester United’s victory over Atalanta after a brawl at halftime in the dressing room.
The Red Devils eventually won the Champions League match on Wednesday, but only after they came back from behind. In fact, Atalanta led by two goals in the first half and could have scored more.
United also had chances before the break, but they really made a comeback in the second half.
Goals from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Ronaldo sent the hosts another decisive victory in Europe.
According to The Sun, a 3-2 win would not have been possible without interventions in the team’s halftime talk from Ronaldo and Fernandes.
A source told the newspaper: “Cristiano addressed the entire team and told them that the performance was unacceptable.
He asked if they weren’t shy and said this wasn’t Manchester United’s performance in front of their fans.
“Tell them they need to win the match, and if they don’t, they may not qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.”
In another report, The Sun detailed how Fernandes took charge of Manchester United’s tactics.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer initially tried to calm the players, before Ronaldo took over. However, Solskjaer intervened and told his players that they could still win the match.
Fernandez insisted, however, that something had to change for that to happen. He said he would have to play a deeper role to get the ball more.
Fernandez then scored two assists, one for Rashford and the other for Maguire.
However, The Sun reports that the Portuguese pair’s talk proved the “increasing influence” of both on United.

United return to action on Sunday when they face Liverpool in another huge game at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have struggled at home in the Premier League recently. In fact, they had not won any of their previous two home matches.
Moreover, they only have one point from three matches in the Premier League.
Fernandes insisted that just three points would be enough against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
