More Dew Talk: And some helpful insights from Sam Curran (stranded in the studio due to his stress fracture) if, like me, you’ve never tried to send a dewball in Dubai. “If the ball is wet, it will swing backwards and it will also make it difficult to catch the ball.”

Nasser Hussain is abroad in Dubai and looks very welcome. England are in a good position but without Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Sam Curran, which shows the depth of England. The challenges are the conditions, because with the balance of the team that England went with it would have been very difficult for the three bowlers to play with a wet ball and a bar of soap if they lost the lot.”
“West Indies are really deep bats and they are a great team to hit the ball. They are great to watch. This is a game between two very strong combative sides, and two weak bowling sides.”

England win the lottery and will throw!
Thus avoiding the problems of the dew that muttered the darkness.

We hope to have teams and a toss soon! Reports suggest that both Jordan and Mills could be England’s eleventh start.

Australia beat South Africa by five points and a wicket, with three balls remaining in the first match of the tournament and one felt as a warm-up for both teams. Back in the studio, seemingly unfair Ian Ward reminds us that England v West Indies starts at 30 minutes.

As Eoin Morgan licks his lips at the opportunity to join MS Dhoni as the lone captain to win the White Ball World Cup, while battling a deadly spiral shape loss, Barney Ronay says, give him a break.

The action in Dubai kicks off at 3pm GMT – to wet your whistle, there’s all sorts of action taking place in Australia against South Africa in Abu Dhabi. Adam has got it all here:

Preamble
Hello! So here we are on an autumnal English afternoon moving into the hot and steamy Super Stadium in Dubai. The T20 World Cup in England begins with a repeat of the 2016 final against the West Indies. You remember it – when Carlos Braithwaite in the Gardens of Eden fired the rocket at Ben Stokes for four straight sixes, the imperative to double each one with a permanent blow, to snatch the trophy from under England’s noses.
No Stokes this time around – although eleven of the same players will be on the field – offering players like Chris Wooks and Liam Livingston a chance to step into his shoes. Not Brathwaite either – leave eating for memories.
England start the No. 1 seed tournament with the West Indies in the doldrums at ninth. But don’t believe a word of those damn stats: On a good day, the West Indies can blow anyone out of the park. As Kieron Pollard said, their stance is “one that says never die.”
England have won four of their last five matches, the West Indies have won three, but England have yet to beat the West Indies in the T20 World Championship. The game has begun!
