Cambria visitors and residents react to earthquake

In the aftermath of the 4.7-magnitude earthquake that shook the central coast, visitors and residents of Cambria reacted to the quake from mixed perspectives.

“I was home finishing my day. I grew up in California, so I know earthquakes when I started feeling them and felt the rolling start happen and it was a good shake,” said Eric Bolton, a Cambria resident.

“I could feel this energy coming from behind me, it felt like my hair was more than static,” said Art Montgomery, a Cambrian resident.

Those who felt the earthquake said that the tremor was short-lived.

“It was over in like three seconds,” Montgomery said.

“I felt it, but it wasn’t something you would dread,” said Mark Bertal, a visitor to Cambria.

“I’ve lived all my life in California, I’ve been through many earthquakes, and I’ve grown through earthquakes, so it’s not a big deal,” said Art Fernandez, a visitor to Cambria.

Several people said they did not feel the effects of the earthquake at all.

“I didn’t feel it, nothing,” said Doreen Rush, a visitor in Cambria.

Others confirmed their suspicions with updates from their mobile phones.

“I got an alert on my phone saying they had detected an earthquake,” Bolton said.

“We were getting up to brush our teeth and suddenly all our phones were on, there’s an earthquake,” said Dawn Carlo, a Cambria visitor.

“We heard it on our phones and we were looking around to see if there was anything looming around us, there was nothing looming around us,” Rush said.

There was an aftershock with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale at 4:49 pm and another after a magnitude of 1.9 at 5:02 pm.
