Queen advised to rest for two weeks, Buckingham Palace says | the Queen

Buckingham Palace said doctors had advised the Queen to rest for at least another two weeks and not to make any official visits.

This means the 95-year-old will not attend the British Royal Legion’s Memorial Festival at the Royal Albert Hall on the eve of Memorial Sunday, although she hopes to be at the memorial to celebrate Memorial Day itself.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “Based on their latest advice that the Queen should rest for a few days, Her Majesty’s doctors have advised that she should continue to rest for at least two weeks.

“Doctors have advised that Her Majesty can continue to carry out light office duties during this time, including some virtual audiences, but not for any official visits.

“Her Majesty the Queen regrets that this means that she will not be able to attend the Memorial Festival on Saturday 13 November. However, it remains her firm intention to be present at the National Service of Remembrance on Sunday, 14 November.”

A source said the Queen’s medical team was taking “reasonable precautions”. She recently underwent tests that required an overnight stay at King Edward VII Hospital in central London.

A source said the Queen remains in “good spirits” and has recorded a Cop26 speech on Friday afternoon which will be presented to delegates next week in Glasgow. She was due to host a reception for world leaders in Glasgow, which will be attended by other members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Queen was said to be continuing her light duties and this week had conducted several virtual audiences, but she felt it made sense to give advance notice and cancel her planned appearance at the Memorial Festival so the hosts could make alternate arrangements.

She had already canceled her planned visit to Cop26 and a two-day visit to Northern Ireland. Although she intends to be of service to the memorial, the Prince of Wales will once again lay a wreath on her behalf, as he has done since 2017.
