Greta Thunberg arrived in Glasgow ahead of the COP26 summit, where world leaders are set to discuss how to tackle the climate crisis.

The 18-year-old Swede gave a thumbs up to the cameras as she made her way through Glasgow Central Station on Saturday night after traveling from London Euston by train.

It comes after Thunberg revealed that she was not “officially” invited to the top.

Although surrounded by police and other environmental activists as she left the train, she appeared in high spirits.

The international conference officially kicks off on Sunday, with a summit of 120 dignitaries and heads of state starting the following day.

Thunberg’s arrival in Glasgow comes after she took part in a demonstration outside a bank in London on Friday.

She was protested by fellow activists at the protest outside Standard Chartered’s headquarters, where thousands of people attended Labor Day protests in 26 countries against funding for fossil fuel projects.

Earlier this week, Thunberg accused the British government of being “climate villains”.

She said the UK, like many other countries, was engaged in what she called “creative carbon accounting”, in which emissions from exported fossil fuels or international shipping and aviation are not currently accounted for.

Ms Thunberg told Sky News: “I find it very strange that they are the kind of people we’re supposed to be looking at right now, but they are objectively one of the biggest climate villains, which I find very strange.” .

But a government spokesperson said: “As the UK has cut emissions faster than any other major economy over the past three decades, and we are the first country to pass net-zero legislation by 2050, we support our assertion that we are leading the way in the fight against climate change. “.

Thunberg is expected to take part in other climate change rallies during the two-week summit in Glasgow, and is scheduled to speak at a protest on Saturday hosted by the COP26 coalition.

Despite being one of the world’s most prominent climate activists, Thunberg previously said she had not received an official invitation to the main summit.

In a preview clip where she spoke to the BBC’s Andrew Marr, she was asked if she had been asked to join.

“I don’t know,” she said. “It’s not clear. It’s not official.”

“I think a lot of people might be afraid that if they invite a lot of young radicals, it might make them look bad,” she added.
