SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (AP) – Chris Wondolowski scored his 171st and final goal of his career Sunday night to help the San Jose Earthquakes draw 1-1 with FC Dallas.
The MLS all-time goals leader retired after the match, ending a 17-season career. Wondolowski, 38, put in a one-touch shot from near the penalty spot from a low pass by Marcos Lopez to give San Jose (10-13-10) a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. He scored five goals in his final season.
Neither team is subject to the play-off.
San Jose captured 59.6% and outperformed Dallas (7-15-11) 26-7.
Jader O’Brien, the 26-year-old Colombian in his first MLS season, scored his ninth goal to make it 1-1 in the 42nd minute. Jesus Ferreira cleared a corner kick from San Jose and O’Brien outstripped the Earthquakes defenders before beating goalkeeper Daniel Vega, who went out of his line, with a reel inside the post.
Jimmy Maurer made six saves for Dallas.
