Earthquake strikes off Nicaragua coast, no initial reports of damage

SAN JOSE (Reuters) – Buildings shook in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose on Monday after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake triggered by the US Geological Survey off the coast of neighboring Nicaragua, but there were no initial reports. from damage.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck off the Pacific coast of Nicaragua at a depth of 35 km (22 miles), about 76 km southwest of the coastal village of Machapa.

Costa Rica’s national emergency services said there were no immediate reports of damage from the quake.
