UK weather: Fresh snowfall The Met Office says the risk of winter conditions is rising

[ad_1]

The Met Office says it can still feel autumn, but we could start to see some winter conditions across the UK from the end of November into December.

In their latest long-range forecast for the UK, weather experts say the important time is the end of this month when there is an “increased chance of some winter conditions”.

This is primarily a risk on higher ground in the north of the country, but lower levels can also be a risk. It’s too early to say if these winter conditions will bring snow or sleet.

As the month ends and December begins, winds from the north and northwest can raise temperatures to nearly average or a little lower – meaning a “slightly higher-than-normal chance of winter conditions”, especially across the north .

Before that, Bristol’s weather looked overcast on Wednesday (November 10) with a chance of rain at lunchtime. The Met Office says temperatures will peak at around 13°C.

Thursday looks dry with some sunny breaks in the afternoon with a high of 14°C.

Expect light rain throughout Friday (13°C) with cloudy evenings.

Saturday to Wednesday it looks dry with temperatures hovering between 10°C and 13°C on cloudy days.

Below, we look at the Bureau of Meteorology’s regional forecast for the next few days and then the full forecast for the first week of December.

Office expectations met southwest

Wednesday (10 November): Cloudy and humid day with foggy weather over the hills, with bouts of light rain or drizzle. There may be some drier breaks in the east during the afternoon, but it stays humid elsewhere. Wind light and stay moderate. The maximum temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday night: Overcast with more drizzle this evening and early tonight. It should become gradually drier during the early hours, with some cloud rests by morning. The minimum temperature is 8 degrees Celsius.

Thursday: A brighter day on Thursday, with any surviving clouds emerging soon to leave a largely sunny sky. Feeling happy in the sunshine with only light wind. The maximum temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

Forecast from Friday to Sunday: Friday breeze with occasional bouts of rain. Very dry with periods of sunny or bright on Saturday. Cooler and breezy on a Sunday but mainly dry with some sun.

The Met Office long-range forecast for the UK

From Sunday 14 November to Tuesday 23 November

It remains variable and autumnal especially in the north during the beginning of this period where low pressure systems prevail, sometimes accompanied by rain and strong winds.

Elsewhere, while rain is occasionally possible, conditions are likely to be drier and brighter in the southern and southeastern regions, although some rain is likely to reach here on occasion.

A cold start to this period is likely to be followed by a brief recovery in temperatures, before another potential downward trend later in the month. Later in the month there will also be an increased chance of some winter conditions, particularly above the higher ground in the north, but with a slight risk of lower levels.

Wednesday 24 November to Wednesday 8 December

Towards the end of November through early December, there are signs of an increased probability of northerly to northwesterly winds. This means that overall temperatures are likely to be close to average or slightly below, although some milder spells cannot be ruled out. In such patterns, the most stable, humid and windy conditions are often found across the northern regions, while the most stable, driest and brightest conditions are often across the south.

There is a slightly higher than normal chance of some winter conditions, particularly across the north.
