USGS detects 1.6-magnitude earthquake west of Leesport

The US Geological Survey detected a small earthquake near Leesport on Friday morning. The 1.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded on November 12, at a depth of 5.1 km, west-southwest of Leesport, near Bloom Creek Road and Davis Bridge Road.

The recorded time was 2:06 AM on Friday. The earthquake was captured by several monitoring stations.

According to the USGS, Berks is located in the Lancaster Seismic Zone in southeastern Pennsylvania. Earthquakes in the central and eastern United States, although less frequent than in the western United States, are usually felt over a much wider area. East of the Rocky Mountains, an earthquake can be felt over an area ten times larger than a similar earthquake on the West Coast.
