A general warns of the risks of an accidental war with Russia at its highest level in decades

Britain’s top military officer has warned that there is a “greater risk” of an accidental war with Russia now than at any time during the Cold War.

On the eve of Sunday’s memorial interview with Radio Times, General Sir Nick Carter, Chief of Defense Staff, said the threat of “escalation leading to miscalculation” was a “real challenge”.

The four-star general spoke as tensions were rising with President Putin’s regime over fears that it was preparing to invade Ukraine and use mass immigration as a weapon.

Yesterday it appeared that British troops were deployed to the Polish border with Belarus as tensions rise over the migrant crisis in Eastern Europe. British planes scrambled to escort two Russian bombers away from the scene
