It was a tough start for Doniel Malin at Borussia Dortmund.
The Dutch striker was linked with Liverpool during the summer, although he ended up sealing a £26m deal on the back of Euro 2020.
A former prospect at Arsenal’s academy, Malin left Arsenal in 2017 to join PSV Eindhoven and made a name for himself in the Eredivisie in recent years due to his scoring exploits.

Malin scored 55 goals in 116 appearances for the club, 27 of which came in his final season in the Netherlands.
His summer move to Germany has not gone as well as expected so far, having managed to score one goal in 17 appearances so far this season.
This led to criticism from Dortmund coach Marco Rose and the club’s director of football Michael Zorc, who were frustrated by his inability to “adapt to the Bundesliga”.
“Donnie’s not showing up what we were hoping for,” Zorc told Kicker magazine.
“He doesn’t seem to score enough goals and give too little. We have to work with him on that.”
Meanwhile, Rose added: “Donny needs to adapt to the Bundesliga, with speed and fitness.
“But he needs to work on his way of thinking, too.
“It is important that he presses very hard, to get into dangerous situations in this way. He needs to be convinced that this is important to him.”
ECHO reported in July that Malin was a player on Liverpool’s transfer ‘radar’ and that the sporting director had been in contact with the Dutch star’s agent.
Jadon’s big-money transfer to Sancho to Manchester United proved to be the defining moment in Malin’s next career move, given that Jurgen Klopp’s former side had identified him as a key signing should Sancho leave.
