Several children were taken to hospital after the roof of a school in Dulwich collapsed.
London Fire Police said the roof of a south London school collapsed on the second floor on Monday morning.
About 20 firefighters and three fire engines were called for the accident on Thurlow Park Road. A number of people at the scene were treated for minor injuries and some children were taken to hospital by London Ambulance crew, and all children and other staff were safely evacuated from the building.
Labour’s Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood tweeted: “Very concerned to hear of a roof collapse at Rosemead School this morning. My thoughts are with the children, staff and parents. I hope no one is seriously injured. I have called the school to offer my support. My thanks to emergency services who attended the scene.
The firefighters systematically searched the building and assured the school that all pupils and staff had been confined. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at 9.22 am and the incident ended by 11.50 am.
A statement from the LFB said a dedicated USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) team and equipment were also used to confirm that the building was “not in danger of collapsing”.
