Police investigating a terrorist incident outside a hospital in Liverpool said the man killed in the blast was 32-year-old Emad Al-Sawalim.
“Our investigations are very ongoing, but we strongly believe at this point that the deceased is 32-year-old Emad Al-Sawalmin,” Chief Detectives Andrew Meeks said.
He said Al-Salemeen is connected to both Rutland Street and Sutcliffe Street addresses where searches are still ongoing.
Liverpool’s latest blast – live updates
Police believe he lived at a Sutcliffe Street address for some time and recently rented a Rutland Street address.
“Our focus is on the Rutland Avenue address where we have continued to recover important items,” said DCI Meeks.
“We continue to appeal for any information about this incident and now that we have released his name any information the public may have about Swealmeen no matter how small it may be of great help to us.”
One person was killed and another injured in a car explosion outside the Women’s Hospital in Liverpool on Sunday.
Earlier, the police carried out a controlled explosion as a precautionary measure in Sefton Park in the city as part of the investigation.
So far, four men have been arrested under terrorism laws in the Kensington area – three aged 21, 26 and 29, who were taken into custody on Sunday, and a 20-year-old man, who was arrested on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference in Downing Street, the prime minister said the explosion was a “stark reminder” to the public to remain vigilant, adding: “What yesterday showed above all is that the British people will never, and will, never, ever be saddled with terror. Never give up. For those who seek to divide us with senseless violence.
“And our freedoms and our way of life will always prevail.”
Assistant Sheriff Ross Jackson, of Northwest Counter Terrorism Police, said the man who died in the blast brought a homemade bomb with him in a taxi and asked to be taken to hospital.
He was arrested on the city’s Rutland Avenue area and when the car reached the hospital’s drop-off point, it exploded.
MI5 assists the police in the investigation.
The cab driver, locally named David Perry, was treated in hospital after fleeing the car just before it caught fire, and has now been discharged.
