“The only thing I suppose to be thankful for is that he didn’t kill anyone else,” Elizabeth Hitchcott said.

A Christian couple who formerly lived with the man who died after he detonated an explosive device in a taxi outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital on Sunday said they are grateful he did not kill anyone else.

Police have identified 32-year-old Emad Al-Sawalimeen as the person killed in the blast, which occurred just before 11 a.m. on Sunday’s memorial.

Elizabeth and Malcolm Hitchcott, a Christian couple living in Liverpool, took the Swealmeen home in 2017.

ITV News understands that Al-Salemeen was an asylum seeker from Syria.

Ms Hitchcott described the terrorist attack as a “waste of life” but was glad no one else was killed in the blast, as taxi driver David Perry miraculously escaped from the taxi without serious injury.

“What a waste of life,” she told ITV News. “But the only thing I suppose to be thankful for is that he didn’t kill anyone else.”

Her husband, Malcolm Hitchcott, went on to describe the closeness he felt to the Swalmins, saying they lived “cheeks” when he stayed with them in their home in the Aigburth area of Liverpool.

Hitchcott said he was “a very quiet friend” who converted to Christianity, was baptized and was confirmed at Liverpool Cathedral after he refused Islam.

He told ITV News, “I mean he lived here for eight months, and we’ve been living in cheeks. There was no suggestion of anything wrong.”

“I’m shocked right now – I don’t know how I’m going to feel tomorrow.”

Malcolm Hitchcott said, “We lived our cheek behind the saliva.”

Mr. Hitchcott added that the plumes had been cut down and spent about six months in a “mental institution” after being involved in an incident downtown “that involved a bridge and a knife”.

In response to the Liverpool terrorist attack, the government has raised the threat level of terrorism in the UK to a severe level, which means an attack is likely.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the threat level had been raised due to two suspected terrorist attacks taking place within a month – most recently the stabbing of MP Sir David Amis.

After raising the threat level, Boris Johnson urged the public to “vigil”.
