Spartan Season begins today: Season 1 of the much-anticipated multiplayer game Halo Infinite is available…now. Tom French, Halo Infinite’s associate creative director, made the announcement during the Xbox 20th Anniversary Livestream on November 15.

French said, “On behalf of the entire Halo team, it is my honor and privilege to announce that your Spartan journey begins today. You can now download and play the first season of Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer trial on Xbox One, Series S, [Series] X and PC.

“This is the start of our season and you will have access to all maps, base modes, academy features, and the full Battle Pass to unlock, and your progress will continue when we officially release the game on December 8.”

Described by developer 343 Industries as a spiritual reboot of the series, the Halo Infinite campaign mode will continue the ongoing story of the franchise, and Xbox Series X players will “enjoy up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second in the campaign and dramatically reduced load times creating a seamless. Game that heralds the generation The next of the games.”

The multiplayer mode had a couple of initial beta previews earlier this year, the last of which was just last month. Multiplayer will also see the return of the split-screen feature, which was cut from Halo 5 in favor of an online-only multiplayer mode – a creative decision that caused huge controversy among Halo’s fan base.

Bonnie Ross, president of 343 Industries, said in 2017, that removing the collaborative split screen from the Halo 5 was “painful” and that it “undermines trust with the community.” [We’ve had a] Lots of lessons learned from that, and I would say for any FPS game going forward, we’ll always have split screens going forward. “

Analysis: Will Free Multiplayer and Day One Xbox Game Pass Bring New Fans?

There are plenty of Halo multiplayer fanatics out there, and Halo Infinite is definitely aimed squarely at the fan base. But there are plenty of reasons to believe that this entry in the series can bring in new players who may not have participated in the previous entries.

For one thing, it should facilitate cross-progression between Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and PC everyone has to play with their friends, while the Day One version on Xbox Game Pass could easily hook up a lot of potential gamers who might not have given it a look otherwise.

Free play certainly doesn’t hurt. But due to the popularity of a host of other free multiplayer shooter games like Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Call of Duty Warzone, Halo Infinite has a lot more competition than it did when the first Halo game came out 20 years ago.
