Tremors from an earthquake in western Scotland that sounded like a “freight train” were felt as far as Edinburgh and Ballycastle in Northern Ireland.

The 3.3-magnitude quake struck shortly before 2 a.m. and is said to have awakened dozens, although no injuries or property damage were reported.

The epicenter was 11 miles northwest of the town of Lochgilphead in Argyll and Bute and about 90 miles northwest of Glasgow, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake is believed to have struck the Sound of Jura, just east of the island, and occurred at a depth of 10 km below the surface of the earth.
