The original cast of the Harry Potter series will be reunited 20 years after the first movie was released.
The network has said that HBO Max’s special Return to Hogwarts will be released on January 1, 2022.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will join American filmmaker Chris Columbus to discuss films and explore their creativity in depth.
HBO Max said the special will invite fans “on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved films of all time.”
The program was announced exactly 20 years after the US release of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on November 16, 2001.
The 52-second trailer featured clips from many world-famous films and promised that the “legendary actors” would return “to where the magic began.”
The trio will be joined by Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton and Tom Felton.
Trailer promotion for Felton, who played blonde-haired villain Draco Malfoy, warned fans to save the date. “Is this what it’s like to go back to school?” wrote on Twitter. “Tag your calendars on New Year’s Day ReturnToHogwarts, streamed on hbomax x.”
Matt Lewis, known for his portrayal of the miserable Neville Longbottom on the series, posted: “On New Year’s Day… we’re bringing the band back together.”
Executive Producer, Casey Patterson said, “There is magic in the air here with this amazing actor, as they all go back home to the sets of the original Hogwarts, where they started 20 years ago.
“The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey, by making these great films.”
It comes as Radcliffe told a BBC documentary, marking the 20th anniversary of the first film, that he was glad so many people watched Harry Potter films when they were “drunk”.
The 32-year-old said: “The time in most people’s lives when they found out it meant it had a very important place in a lot of people’s childhoods, and they still feel very protected by it.
“One of my favorite destinies we would never have imagined for the Harry Potter movies but many friends have told me is great when people are hungry and they are really crazy about themselves.
“They will only watch a few movies in a row and it will take them to a place of warmth and comfort.
“It’s so beautiful to me. This is the real impact a movie can have on someone’s life. I think that’s great.”
The documentary, as part of Movies With Ali Plumb, also saw Radcliffe pay tribute to author J.K. Rowling, who has expanded the Potter universe to include the Fantastic Beasts film series starring Eddie Redmayne.
