Rust script supervisor sues Alec Baldwin and producers over shooting | Rust film set shooting

Alec Baldwin and other producers of Rust are facing a new lawsuit over the fatal shooting of the West set in New Mexico last month.

The film’s supervisor, Mamie Mitchell, filed the lawsuit on Wednesday, claiming that the script did not ask the actor to shoot the shootings that killed cinematographer Helena Hutchins and injured director Joel Sousa.

Mitchell’s complaint said, “Alec Baldwin purposely, without reason or excuse, fired from the loaded rifle even though the next scene to be shot did not call for aiming and firing from the firearm.”

“Mr. Baldwin chose to play Russian roulette with a loaded pistol without checking it and without the gunsmith doing so. His behavior and that of the producers were… intentional acts and/or omissions, without any just cause or excuse and with complete disregard for the consequences,” the complaint continues.

According to the lawsuit, Mitchell was standing less than 4 feet from Baldwin when he fired the gun. As a result, she experienced “serious physical shock, trauma and injury”, as well as “severe psychological, physical and nervous pain and suffering.”

Other defendants listed in Mitchell’s lawsuit include gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reid, assistant director David Holz, and several production companies.

The lawsuit comes a week after the film’s head of lighting, Serge Svetnoy, sued Baldwin and others, alleging negligence caused him “extreme psychological distress” that would haunt him forever.

Lawyers for the crew members suggested that someone may have sabotaged the film’s set. “I think someone who’s going to do that is going to want to sabotage the group, want to prove a point, want to say he’s indignant, he’s not happy,” Jason Bowles, Reed’s attorney, said this month.

Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altois, the district attorney investigating the shooting, dismissed the conspiracy theories but said she understood that more than one live shot had been found on the set. Did not disclose the exact number.
