The police have now launched an investigation.
Superintendent Dave Kehoe, from GMP Serious Crimes Division, said: “This was a tragic incident where a 60-year-old man lost his life and our thoughts with his family and friends understandably devastated.
“There is a cordon and officers are currently at the site as we piece together what exactly happened and who is involved.
“The area was very crowded at the time and a number of people might have seen what happened. Even the smallest information could help our investigation.
“Information can be reported online at www.gmp.police.uk citing registry 2792 dated 11/20/2021. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800555111.”
