Adele convinces Spotify to remove shuffle as default in albums

Adele convinced Spotify to remove the shuffle button as a default option on album pages, so that it would automatically play in the artist’s own order.

The 33-year-old music star’s fourth album, 30, was released on Friday to widespread critical acclaim.

Adele reposted the announcement on Twitter, writing: “This was the only request I’ve received in our ever-changing industry!

“We don’t create albums with great care and think about the playlist for no reason.

“Our art tells a story and our stories should be heard the way we wanted to. Thank you Spotify for listening.”

The broadcast giant replied: “Anything for you.”

Shuffle, often used to play an album or playlist in random order, is the default feature for albums on Spotify, and will still be available for use but is not standard.

It comes ahead of her concert, filmed in the London Palladium, titled An Audience With Adele, and broadcast on ITV on Sunday.

The event featured performances of many of her classic songs in front of a specially invited audience of friends, family, fans, her personal heroes and heroines, fellow musicians, artists, actors, athletes, female athletes and more.

Famous people in attendance included Emma Thompson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Dawn French Stormzy, Gareth Southgate and Samuel L. Jackson.

A highlight of the show, according to an audience member, was when Adele surprised her old teacher while on stage, causing her to cry.

She was seen crying on stage as she met the teacher who taught her at Chestnut Grove School in Balham.

On the show, actress Emma Thompson asked the singer who inspired her when she was young, and Adele opened up about the teacher’s influence on her in year eight, before the actress revealed she was in the audience.

Adele told the audience on the show, which was taped earlier this month, “I’m really touched. I haven’t been home in a long time and haven’t performed here in a long time.”

“I’m so nervous! Of course I’m b****y am.

“I’m a huge fan of An Audience With – it used to be the highlight of my life whenever – so happy to do it tonight, so excited.”

The artist made her big comeback with Easy On Me, her first new track in six years, which currently ranks at number one on the UK singles charts, according to Official Charts Company.
