Boris Johnson said MP Sir David Amis “will be greatly missed” as he paid tribute to the MP ahead of a funeral service in Southend.
He is a father of five who was stabbed to death while undergoing surgery at Belviers Methodist Church in Les-en-Seas on October 15.
Mourners will pay their respects at the service and procession in his constituency in Southend West on Monday, before prayers at Westminster Abbey the following day.

The prime minister told Sky News that the Southend service was “an opportunity for everyone who knew and loved David to reflect on his incredible contribution to politics, to the people of Essex, to Southend”.
Johnson also said: “He was a guy who campaigned about the things he really cared about whether it was animal welfare, people with endometriosis, something that got widespread public attention, or campaigning against fuel shortages.
“He showed what you can achieve as a Member of Parliament to change the lives of people across the country and will be greatly missed.”
The Prime Minister also praised Sir David’s “posthumously successful” campaign for Southend’s achievement of the city’s status.
After the 1pm prayer, the horse-drawn dome will carry the casket in procession through Southend.
It is due to stop in front of the Southend Civic Center and again outside Sir David’s circuit office, Ivege-Hall, before returning to Comfort Chapel.

Ian Gilbert, leader of Southend Council, said Monday would be an “incredibly emotional day”.
He said Sir David’s family was “aware that there were many others in town who knew and loved him”, and had agreed to broadcast the service on local radio station BBC Essex.
Funeral services on Monday, led by Reverend Paul Mackay and Reverend Monsignor Kevin William Hill, are conducted only by invitation.
