Michael Carrick has responded defiantly to Paul Scholes, saying he should have been sacked after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sent off from Manchester United.
Carrick has been appointed in charge of Man United temporarily until the club appoints an interim manager for the remainder of the season.
He took charge of his first game as caretaker coach on Tuesday, leading his team to victory over Villarreal in the Champions League.

But before he took his seat in the pit, Carrick was harshly criticized by Scholes for staying at the club after the Norwegian was sacked.
“I feel with Ole that he put a lot of faith in Michael, Kieran and Mike Phelan and that’s why they shouldn’t be at the club now,” Scholes said on BT Sport.
“They are all good friends and they are good people, but if I were one of them, I would feel guilty about still working at the club after Ole put so much faith in them.
“I would be embarrassed to be on the cast now that what happened to Ole.
“Being on the crew and preparing the squad for tonight, they should all have gone. Ole trusted them every week to prepare the team for matches. They let the club, and the players, as Ole did.”
“I would almost be embarrassed to be on the cast now, I think they all should have left.”
“Ole trusted them every week, they let the club down just as much.”

Well, after guiding Man United to victory over Villarreal, Carrick dismissed Scholes’ comments.
He said: “It is not an important result for me personally, it is an important result for the players and for the club
“It’s an important result for the players, tonight is not about me in any way.
“Obviously it’s been an emotional few days. The first person I spoke to after Ed [Woodward] Asking me to do this role was ole, almost to see what he was thinking because I felt like it was the right thing to do.”
Next up for Man United Carrick, a crucial Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday.
