‘Not really cool’ – Jurgen Klopp made Liverpool claim after Champions League surprise

[ad_1]

Jurgen Klopp admits he has been surprised by the way Liverpool have maintained their perfect Champions League record this season.

The Reds claimed their fifth win in five Group B matches with a 2-0 victory over Porto at Anfield on Wednesday.

Thiago Alcantara and Mohamed Salah scored goals in the second half after the visiting team missed many opportunities before the end of the first half to take advantage of an indifferent performance in the first half from the Liverpool sports team, which underwent four changes.

But Klopp was impressed with how his team took the lead after the break.

“We could have lost this match, we gave the chances where they should have scored,” the Reds boss said.

“It would have made the match difficult, we were lucky in moments.

“We have moments when we don’t play, that’s right.

“I didn’t really expect that tonight because we changed the crucial things, to be honest. We don’t expect the boys to immediately become a stress machine.

“You know we have to evolve in the game, and that’s what happened. That’s what I was happy with.

“But we have to play better against Southampton on Saturday because they are a real pressure machine.

“A lot of good things happened tonight but I’m not sure we should go wrong by saying ‘we are this’ or ‘we are’ again. But we are in a good moment and we have to try everything to keep this going.”

Klopp added: “In the whole match we needed moments of luck because of some of the new things we did today, they had great chances, especially the counter-attacks on the left side where the defense was really tough.

“They had their moments but they didn’t score. We scored two goals and controlled the second half better. I am really happy with the performance.”
