Ralf Rangnick is close to completing a deal to become the interim manager of Manchester United until the end of the season.
Discussions are underway over a deal that would also see Rangnick remain at the club for two years after the end of the season in an advisory role.
Rangnick, 63, is currently the director of sport and development at Lokomotiv Moscow and United remain in talks with the Russian club over an agreement for his release.
As it stands, Michael Carrick is still expected to take charge of Sunday’s Premier League game at Chelsea, live on Sky Sports.
Carrick has been appointed to a temporary assignment as United run a comprehensive process to appoint an interim president following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last week.
Former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde and former Lyon coach Rudi Garcia have also been selected to take over the interim role.
The club is planning to set a permanent date at the end of the season, and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino will be their first choice, with Ajax coach Eric Ten Hag also on their minds.
Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino refuses to talk about rumors linking him to Manchester United.
