Health Minister Sajid Javid will make an urgent announcement of the Coronavirus this morning.

The 11 a.m. statement comes as a new and worrisome complex variant of Covid 19 has been discovered.

100 cases of the mutated variant were found in three countries, pushing six countries into the UK Travel Red List.

Mr. Javid will speak in the House of Commons.

There are fears the virus could spread more easily and wipe out vaccines because it has twice the number of mutations as delta – which could mean a return to restrictions in the UK.

Health Minister Sajid Javid said a new variant identified in South Africa “may be more transmissible” than the Delta strain and “the vaccines we currently have may be less effective”.
